That Time I Succumbed To Having Red And Gold Hair Highlights
Blonde has been my lifestyle for the past five or so years, but due to a spontaneous hair coloring session—or shall I say, hair contouring—at Vivere Salon, my life has drastically changed. And I mean that in a very colorful way, pun intended.
For the makeover, my only requirements were the following:
Subtle so it won’t look horrible once my roots start to grow, but drastic enough for the change to be noticed, too.
Shouldn’t be a threat to potential clients.
JC Espiritu, the senior stylist there, was eager to perform the balayage on my hair. It's a process where lighter highlights are applied at the stylist's discretion, as opposed to evenly and asymmetrically. The result is supposedly a fuller, more natural look.
So what he recommended was a ~blend~ of red and gold. “But isn’t it a bit too early for Christmas?” I silently protested.
I'm celebrating the mid-year anyway, so why not go all new mid-year, new you? So I went with his suggestion and after seeing and living with the results so far, I just realized how bored I already was with my old look. I totally understand Irene Kim now—colored hair is so much fun to live with. And the best part is, it makes all your outfits look better, even the ones for work!
LOOK IMPECCABLY FIERCE WITH AN UNAPOLOGETICALLY RED AS RED CAN BE DRESS
One useless fear people have when it comes to coloring their hair is that it might clash with similar colors of their outfit, like say, in my case, red on red. But I think a literally head-to-toe red outfit isn’t faux pas if you know how to balance the details.
For this look, I chose a dress adorned with lace and a ruffled hem, because I felt that a granny demeanor would offset my very generation now hair.
STOP TRAFFIC WITH A NO-FAIL ALL BLACK OUTFIT
Here’s a not-so-secret. If you’ve got colored hair, you can actually skip the accessories or fierce eye makeup and go au naturel. So fear not, even when you’re in a fully black outfit, you won't be disappearing into the shadows because your fiery red hair will be enough to command attention.
Talk about having a go-to dress and a go-to hair on lazy, I-have-nothing-to-wear days! Here, I'm wearing plain black everything with huge, hard-edged silhouettes, from my bag to my shoes.
SPORT AN OTHERWISE BASIC DENIM AND BLUES LOOK FOR CASUAL FRIDAYS
I discovered that even when you’re in lowly jeans and a boring summer top, colored hair instantly levels up your overall look. I guess it's true when Feng Shui masters and color analysts say that red is empowering. I'd say it's effortless, too.
So here I am enjoying my break time, basking in my red and gold crowning glory, in an outfit that requires practically zero styling.
LOOK EVER-SO-VIBRANT, FUN, AND YOUTHFUL IN A CHIC WHITE ENSEMBLE
I don’t know about you but I love a fresh palette, so I can then mess it up—just like this outfit! I make the look as fresh and clean as ever, with only an earring and a rather nondescript heel.
Now think of how white-on-white, an outfit that requires you to be extra careful and be on your best behavior, instantly makes people think you're very put together. But everything changes with rich red and caramel golden hair. It's definitely the perfect balance.
Are you seriously considering it? You have my blessing and full support!
Many thanks to Roselle Nayve who has initiated this event and to the rest of the team!
